Bonhams offers a unique opportunity to bid on up to 180 lots of classic motorcycles and some very interesting cars alongside spare parts and other motor collectibles. With prices ranging up to a maximum of 60,000 euros, it can be a great way to add to your collection.
This January, Bonhams/Cars auction house’s motorcycle department has presented a diverse selection of motorcycles, cars, parts, and collectibles in their online end-of-January sale. These online auctions have been a key success factor for Bonhams, accounting for more than 1.5 million euros of the 9 million euros this division sold in 2024.
Among Bonhams’ recent record-breaking results are the sale of a 1922 Brough Superior 996cc MkI/SS80 ‘Special’ for 90,000 euros. Additionally, an entirely original and unrestored 1955 Vincent 998cc Black Knight sold for 69,000 euros.
Now, the auction includes an intriguing trio of top Vincent motorcycles from the Stevenage collection. Headlined by the Vincent-HRD 998cc Comet/White Shadow from 1949/1951, estimated between 36,000 and 48,000 euros. This motorcycle features a genuine White Shadow Serie-C engine and has undergone significant renovation since its acquisition.
A 1952 Vincent
Also featured in this Bonhams online auction is a 1952 Vincent 499cc Serie-C Comet (estimated between 12,000 – 18,000 euros). It is a matching numbers example with all its parts and has benefited from extensive restoration between 2008 and 2020.
The powerful V-twin engines take center stage at this auction, with the 1939 Brough Superior 982cc SS80 Special, estimated between 48,000 and 60,000 euros. A carefully restored gem with matching frame, engine, and gearbox in the original model.
The AJS 996cc R2 V-Twin from 1930 is also offered, suitable for participation in the Banbury Run. Its estimated price ranges from 9,600 to 14,500 euros. This bike is complemented by an optional AJS two-seater sidecar, available separately for those seeking the perfect trio riding experience.
Two interesting cars
To ramp up the excitement of this online event, two fantastic cars will be part of the sale. Both are from significant single-owner motorcycle collections.
First, the 1948 Bentley Mark VI Special (estimated price of 12,000 – 18,000 euros) offered by the Andy Chapman Collection. A comprehensive collection of Italian, British, and Japanese “super bikes” from the 1960s to the 1980s.
The other car on offer is the 1926 Morris Oxford 13.9hp ‘Bullnose’ Tourer (between 6,000 and 9,500 euros), a practical vintage tourer offered by the late Derek Fox’s estate. Derek Fox was a renowned collector whose incredible collection of vintage Norton motorcycles, including the ex-H Matthews, the 1927 Amateur TT, and the 1927 Norton 490cc ES2 Racing Motorcycle, will also be featured in the upcoming Stafford auction.
Also, competition motorcycles
The racing pedigree blends with iconic engineering in the 2001 Honda 999cc SP-1 (estimated price: 8,500 to 12,000 euros), a road and track racing legend manufactured for only two years. Now available after a decade of exclusive ownership.
Alongside the SP-1 is the 1980 Laverda 981cc Jota (estimated value: 10,000 to 14,500 euros), accompanied by a detailed historical archive. It also includes over 5,000 euros of expert restoration by UK specialists of the Made In Italy bikes in 2019.
The sale includes a variety of iconic off-road motorcycles, including the 1978 CCM TR350 Trials valued around 4,000 euros. CCM was a company founded by the successful rider Alan Clews in the 1960s, famous for producing specialized motocross machines with BSA engines.
